A good friend of mine shared with me first hand why he had started living a whole food plant based diet.  We worked together at a trade show for  18 days. I had being feeling bad and was over weight and decided when we went out to eat I simply would order what he had. In the booth I ate his snakes of crackers and hummus and I stated feeling better. I lost weight with ease as if my body was saying, YES.  We talked about how and why I was to partake in this new direction . I suggested we start a blog to share with others. When you eat this way in public , you end up getting so many questions. Maybe this will answer some.  This is what my fiend had to say:

Six years ago I had the good fortune to experience a very thorough physical. They sliced and diced every square inch of my body, and drew gallons of blood.Results? Healthy as horse, except I’m told I have a high calcium score. I thought ok, I just need to reduce my calcium intake correct? No! This number tells us I have plaque build up in my arteries. What! You must be kidding? Look at me, I’m not fat, I exercise, how could this be?I’m told I’m doing most everything correctly, my blood pressure Meds keeps me close to normal, and the doc increases my cholesterol to 40mg Crestor. My doctor assures me I’ll never have a heart attack under his watch, and if I ever feel chest pain call him anytime day or night.The more I thought about this whole experience the more dissatisfied I became with the recommendations. This happened mid October, the day after thanksgiving setting at DFW waiting for a plane back to Denver, I googled something like, reverse heart disease. The very first result was a book called “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” written by Caldwell Esselstyn.

I purchased the book immediately on my iPad and devoured it on the flight back to Denver. In a Nutshell this Doctor had taken 18 severely sick Heart patients recommended to him by the Cardiac team at the Cleveland Clinic.
I highly recommend reading this book. He lays out more real life testimonials to the power of a Plant strong, no oil diet than any evidence I’ve seen to date.
So here I am today almost six years plant strong / no oil and in the best shape of my life. Blood lipid test with numbers I could once only dream about. I’ve reduced blood pressure and cholesterol meds to a minimum and are very close to getting rid of all.I look forward to sharing valuable assistance to others from what I’ve learned and benefitted so greatly from.

We are just regular guys trying to get healthy. Go get the book “engine2” by Rip Esselstyn it will give you a basic understanding of what I am trying to do!  If you have a whole foods nearby , grab some go to standby’s. Engine 2 products in a red box. From crackers to frozen burgers . Hummus and tortillas .  And remember NO OIL!  You will get your healthy fats from the foods in your diet. Great recipes in the book “plant Strong” by Rip Esselstyn 150 recipes and they are easy to do… I make the hummus all the time.
